IMOLA

Imola, Via Emilia, Party building

A close look at the fasces on the relief that can be found on the building’s side; with the inscriptions X^Legio. The Fascio di Combattimento (Political Combat Group) of Imola was part of the Federation of Bologna that was called X^Legio; year XI to remember the building’s construction completed in 1933 (XI year of the Fascist Era). The last bas-relief depicts three figures, each with a musket, spade, and pennant.

Part of the speech delivered by Mussolini on the occasion of the proclamation of the Empire on May 9th 1936-XIV is engraved above the entrance.

“The Italian people have created, with their blood, an Empire. They will fertilize it with their work and they will defend it against whomever with their arms. With this supreme certainty, legionnaires, raise high your insignias; the iron and the heart to salute after fifteen centuries the reappearance of the Empire on the inevitable hills of Rome. Will you be worthy? This shout is like a sacred oath that appoints you in front of God and in front of men for life and for death"

The mosaic pavement inside of the Casa del Fascio’s (House of Fasces; Party Building) gallery depicts Imola’s coat of arms. The fasces have been removed from the branches of the oak tree on the upper part of the decoration.
